Immunisation project

In 2025, we are excited to launch a new immunisation program in Ndegeya, aimed at improving health outcomes for children and families in this rural community and surrounding villages.

This initiative is critical as it seeks to address the pressing need for effective vaccination coverage in an area that has historically faced challenges in accessing healthcare services.

Project Overview

The primary goal of our immunisation program is to establish a reliable cold chain system that ensures vaccines are stored and transported at the required temperatures, maintaining their efficacy. A well-functioning cold chain is essential for the success of any immunization effort, particularly in rural settings where infrastructure may be lacking.

Key Components of the Program

We want to focus on the following 4 components to make the program a success.

Cold Chain Infrastructure: We want to set up a solar-powered cold chain and if necessary insulated transport boxes, which will allow us to store vaccines safely and transport them to remote locations without compromising their quality. Solar panels already have been installed and are vital given the inconsistent electricity supply..

Community Engagement: To ensure the program's success, we will need to work closely with local leaders  to raise awareness about the importance of immunization. Community outreach efforts will focus on educating families about vaccine benefits and dispelling myths that may hinder participation.

Mobile Vaccination Units: If necessary we want to deploy mobile vaccination units that can reach underserved areas, providing vaccinations directly to communities. This approach will help overcome geographical barriers and make immunization more accessible.

Training Healthcare Workers: Local healthcare workers will receive training on vaccine storage, handling, and administration practices. This capacity-building effort will ensure that the community has skilled personnel to manage the immunization process effectively.

Importance of the Program

The introduction of this immunization program is vital for several reasons:

  1. Reducing Disease Burden: By increasing vaccination coverage, we aim to significantly reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, polio, and hepatitis B in Ndegeya and surrounding areas.
  2. Improving Child Health: Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect children from serious health complications and death caused by infectious diseases. This program will contribute to improved child survival rates and overall community health.
  3. Strengthening Health Systems: Establishing a robust cold chain system not only supports immunization efforts but also enhances the overall healthcare infrastructure in the region, paving the way for future health initiatives.
