Laudara Foundation supports new mothers with baby packs

At the Mother and Childcare Centre in Ndegeya, we recently distributed 50 specially prepared baby packs to new mothers, many of whom traveled from afar to receive these essential supplies that aim to give their babies a better start in life. This initiative is part of the foundation's ongoing commitment to supporting maternal and child health in Uganda’s underserved rural communities.

In Ndegeya, it is a shared belief that “every child is a blessing from God,” bringing joy and hope to the family and community. Yet, each blessing comes with responsibilities such as feeding, clothing, and educating the child. For many young and single mothers facing poverty, fulfilling these needs can be particularly challenging.

One moving example is Catherine, who delivered her son Andrew in February this year at our Mother and Childcare Centre. Both mother and baby were malnourished at birth. Andrew was wrapped in an old curtain, and as he grew, he suffered from slow developmental milestones and recurring infections linked to malnutrition. “It’s always hard to feed myself and my family well,” Catherine shared softly during her visit to the clinic. The care and checkups at the Mother and Childcare Centre, supported by the foundation, have been vital in helping Andrew receive the treatment and attention he needs.

The baby packs include newborn clothing, blankets, soap, diapers, and other essentials tailored to the real needs observed at the clinic. Beyond material support, the centre offers compassionate healthcare services, including antenatal and postnatal care, nutritional guidance, and education, led by midwife Miriam.

The reality in Uganda is that many young mothers are single and face pregnancy without traditional family support, and poverty often compounds these struggles. However, the Laudara Foundation’s approach is one of empowerment and dignity rather than weakness. By investing in community healthcare and education, the foundation helps mothers build healthier lives for themselves and their children, strengthening families and communities.

Thanks to the generous support of donors, the foundation is able to continue expanding these life-changing services. Every baby pack given and every consultation offered at the centre is a contribution toward a future where every child can thrive from the very start.

This story of hope and support highlights the essential work at the heart of the Mother and Childcare Centre in Ndegeya—a place where compassion, care, and community come together to nurture life and build brighter futures.
